The Truman State University men's soccer team was voted 10th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason coaches' poll, announced Wednesday morning by the league office.
The Bulldogs picked up 105 points to land between Southern Indiana and Wisconsin-Parkside in the league predictions.
After finishing tied for 11th in last season's final standings with an overall record of 7-8-3 (5-7-3 GLVC), the Bulldogs will look to qualify for the conference's eight-team tournament in late October by returning six starters and 18 letterwinners.
Head coach Duke Cochran enters his 10th season at the helm and will lean on seniors Nick Franta (six goals, 13 points in 2013) and Austin Hayden (three goals, four assists in 2013) on the offensive end and senior Drew Garrone (1.14 goals-against average, four shutouts in 2013) in goal.
Last season's co-regular season champions claimed the top two spots in this season's preseason poll, as Indianapolis edged Quincy (Ill.) by nine points and four first-place votes.
Two other programs â?? third-ranked Rockhurst (Mo.) and fourth-ranked Lewis (Ill.) â?? each picked up the remaining first-place votes, with Drury (Mo.) rounding out the top-five.
The 2014 season officially gets underway for Truman on Saturday, Sept. 6 at home when the Bulldogs host Graceland (Iowa) at 2 p.m. at the Bulldog Soccer Park.
GLVC action kicks off the following weekend with home tilts against Illinois Springfield (Sept. 12) and Southern Indiana (Sept. 14).
