Truman State softball opens their season with a win

FLORENCE, Ala. - - Junior Ally McReynolds tallied two hits and two RBI, and senior Kelsey Bollman batted a perfect 3-for-3, as the Truman softball team kicked off its 2014 season with a 4-1 regional win against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.).

The Bulldogs (1-0) also got a complete game two-hitter out of Kindra Henze in the circle, as the sophomore struck out six and allowed just four base-runners on the afternoon.

Truman got on the board in the third inning, as a ball off the bat of junior Cate Simon was misplayed by the TNU (3-2) third baseman, allowing Jessica VanNostrand to score from third.

Then, in the fifth, the Bulldogs got back-to-back two-out RBI doubles off the bats of McReynolds and Alexis VanNostrand to push Truman's lead to 4-0.

TNU would get on the board with a leadoff home run in the sixth, but Henze quieted the Trojans the rest of the way to help send the Bulldogs to a season-opening victory.

Danielle Lewellen and Liz Leath added base hits for Truman, who continues play at the North Alabama Invitational on Saturday with games against Christian Brothers (Tenn.) (4 p.m.) and West Florida (6 p.m.).
