For the second straight week, the Truman softball team was ranked 10th in the NCAA-II Central region rankings, announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.
The Bulldogs are once again one of five MIAA teams listed in the top-10. Truman (25-15) posted a 4-2 week with a win against Central Oklahoma, who fell from fourth to sixth in this weekâ??s regional poll.
Fort Hays (Kan.) State maintained its grip on the top spot, joining Truman, UCO, No. 8 Missouri Western and No. 9 Emporia (Kan.) State as MIAA representative. Four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams rank in the top-seven, with Southeastern Oklahoma State from the Great American Conference holding the No. 2 spot. Overall, Truman has five wins against teams that are regionally-ranked nationwide, having earned victories against both UCO and MWSU from the Central, as well as Indianapolis (Midwest No. 1), Missouri-St. Louis (Midwest No. 3) and Wayne (MIch.) State (Midwest No. 10). The top eight teams in the region will be selected to the NCAA-II tournament on May 6, with a final regional poll being unveiled next Wednesday, May 1. Truman has two road doubleheaders this weekend to close out the regular season, beginning at 2:00 pm Friday at Washburn.
