The Truman State University softball team earned the No. 4 seed in the Midwest region and will open play on Friday at 12 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo., against Ohio Dominican. Truman (41-11) earned an at-large selection to the 2014 NCAA Div. II softball tournament and will make the 15th tournament appearance in school history.
The Bulldogs will join three other teams in the Missouri-St. Louis sub-regional, including first-round opponent. Members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference, the Panthers reached the championship game of the GLIAC tournament this past weekend, falling to Wayne (Mich.) State to cap their regular season with a 29-27 record.
After starting the season with a 5-17 mark, the Panthers rebounded to close the year with a 25-9 stretch. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments. Regional competition will be held May 8-10 or May 9-11 with winners advancing to the super regionals May 16-17.
The finals will be held May 22-26 at James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va., and will be hosted by the Mountain East Conference and the city of Salem. This marks the first postseason appearance for the Bulldogs under the direction of eighth-year head coach Erin Brown, with this year's team eclipsing the 40-win mark for only the fifth time in school history.
