Junior Cate Simon reached base six out of eight times at the plate, while Alexis VanNostrand and Jessica VanNostrand combined for five hits to help spur the No. 16 Truman softball team to a split at No. 24 Indianapolis on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs (33-8, 23-5) dropped game one to the Great Lakes Valley Conference's East division leading Greyhounds, 2-0, before the purple and white rallied to take game two by a 2-1 score.
Indianapolis closed the day 32-8 overall, 21-3 in the GLVC. Simon finished the day 4-of-6 from the plate and added two walks to raise her on-base percentage to .750.
Meanwhile, the VanNostrand sisters combined to hit 5-of-14 with a double. Andrea Klipsch blasted a home run and accounted for both of the 'Dogs' RBIs on the day. Truman closes its two-day trek through central Indiana with a doubleheader at Saint Joseph's College on Saturday.

Two second-inning runs were all UIndy needed in game one, as Truman left 11 runners on base in a 2-0 defeat. The 'Hounds scored twice in the second, getting an RBI single by Tayler Weck before picking up one more unearned run when the Bulldogs misplayed a ball off the bat of Sydney Russell.
After that second inning, however, the Bulldogs had the better run of play but left two on base in each the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before leaving the bags full in the seventh. Alexis VanNostrand's two hits led the Bulldog offense, while both she and Ally McReynolds logged a doubles in the contest.
Kindra Henze (17-4) suffered the hard-luck loss, dealing six innings of six-hit ball
. She struck out three, did not walk a batter, and was saddled with one earned run. Casey Williamson had two hits for UIndy, while Morgan Foley improved to 24-4 overall by tossing a four-hit shutout.

Andrea Klipsch provided the offense, and Kelsea Dorsey was stellar in the circle, as the Bulldogs picked up a split against the Greyhounds with a 2-1 victory. Klipsch recorded her fifth home run of the season in just the game's second at-bat, launching a 2-2 pitch over the center field fence.
Then, in the second, she coaxed a walk to force home Liz Leath and give Truman a 2-0 lead. UIndy would get one back in the bottom of the second, but that was the only dent on the board the rest of the way, as Dorsey improved to 16-4 on the year with her complete game three-hitter.
She struck out four and did not walk a batter on just 86 pitches.
Simon went 3-for-4, while Jessica VanNostrand went 2-for-3 out of the No. 6 slot in the Bulldog lineup. Alexa Alfaro had two of UIndy's three hits, including the solo HR, while starter Morgan Lewis (8-4) took the loss after giving up seven hits and two walks in just two innings of work.
