Truman State tennis falls to Missouri Valley 5 to 4

In their home finale, the Truman Men's Tennis team was defeated by the Missouri Valley Vikings 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs will await their opponent in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament next Friday in St. Louis.

Jake Ohlhausen and Mike Merchant put Truman up 1-0 with an 8-2 win in the number three doubles match however the Vikings took one and two doubles by identical 8-4 scores.

Ohlhausen won number one singles 6-4, 6-3 and Joe Murphy-Baum won number two with a 6-1, 6-2 score.

Murphy-Baum joined Mike Merchant in the 40-win club with the victory. Merchant is Truman's active career leader with 47 wins.

The Vikings grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number six singles and a 6-0, 6-2 win at number five.

The final two matches went three sets with Kirk Schlueter being downed at number four 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 while Adam King won his final home match 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

King will enter the conference tournament with 39 career victories.

It was the last home match for four Bulldog seniors, King, Merchant, Murphy-Baum and Schlueter.
