Truman State Wrestling picked sixth in MIAA
Despite a national ranking of 16th, the Truman Wrestling team was selected sixth out of seven teams in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association preseason coaches' poll.
The University of Nebraska-Kearney edged out Central Oklahoma in the poll with the Lopers picking up 35 votes to the Bronchos 32.
UNK was ranked second while UCO third in the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association National poll with Kearney winning the past two national championships.
The Lopers have six wrestlers ranked nationally including the top ranked grapplers at 133 and 197 pounds.
UCO also has six ranked with the top wrestler at 157 pounds.
Fort Hays (Kan.) State and Lindenwood (Mo.) were third and fourth respectively at 23 and 22 points.
The Tigers have no individuals ranked in the top eight while Lindenwood has the number six wrestler at 174 and received votes as a team in the national poll.
Central Missouri was fifth with 14 points and nationally has the seventh rated wrester at 149 followed by the Bulldogs with 11 and Newman (Kan.) with 10.
Truman is tied for 16th in the national coaches' poll and returns the top-ranked wrestler at 149 in senior Ryan Maus.
Both Truman and Newman are associate members of the conference in the sport of wrestling.
