Truman State wrestling stops Hannibal-LaGrange 39 to 6
The Truman Wrestling team got a strong start and never let up in defeating Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) on Thursday night by a 39-6 score. The Bulldogs are 1-0 in dual matches this season while the Trojans fall to 2-1.
Ryan Ward started things off at 184 with a pinfall victory late in the first period and Helmut Rentschler followed with a tech fall win to put Truman up 11-0.
Mike Wright for the Trojans defeated Ben Dudley by a 5-1 score for the first HLG points of the night but Jabez Zinabu won 10-3 at 125 to get the team points right back for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs won five of the last six matches, three by fall. Rafael Lopez was impressive in his Bulldog debut with a 7-3 decision at 133 and Nick Shea was down early but fought back for a pin fall win late in the second period to make it 23-3 Truman.
Ryan Maus clinched the dual with one second remaining in period two with a fall win and Colton Schmitz wasted little time as he dispatched of James Townsend by fall at the 1:17 mark.
Bryce Alexander held off Devon Fenstermaker for a 7-6 Trojan win at 165 but Chase Wrisinger ended the match with a 20-9 major victory at 174.
Truman will return to the mats next Thursday at Graceland (Iowa).
