The 18th-ranked Truman volleyball team ran its winning streak to five on Saturday afternoon, sweeping aside Maryville 3-0 in Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs (11-5, 5-1 GLVC) led wire-to-wire in the opening set, but saw themselves trailing 6-4 in the second frame.
From there, however, Truman pounced on the Saints (6-11, 1-6 GLVC), scoring six straight to take a 10-6 lead before Maryville would get a kill.
At 10-7 though, the Bulldogs rattled off a 15-0 run to close the set behind the serving of Meghan Zimmerman, marking a 21-1 total run. That momentum carried through the intermission into the third set, where Truman jumped ahead 6-2 and again never trailed, leading by as many as seven on the way to a 25-21 victory. Junior Allie Brak led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and hit .321 for the match, while 10 other Bulldogs recorded at least one kill on the afternoon. Overall, Truman hit .337 as a team â?? marked by a high of .480 in the second set â?? while Maryville mustered just an .048 mark.
Truman also sided-out at a 62% clip, compared to just 39% for the visiting Saints. Junior Meghan Zimmerman logged her second straight double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs, while sophomore Emilee Walters added six kills and three blocks behind a .455 attack line.
Sophomore Ali Patterson led the Bulldogs at the net, taking credit for five block assists as part of Truman's nine total blocks on the day. Mikaela Lahm finished with eight kills and a .294 hitting line for the Saints. Truman returns to action on Tuesday night, visiting Quincy (6-9, 2-4 GLVC) for a 7:00 pm first serve.
