Truman's Rebecca Nelson wins the Heptathlon at the KU Relays
Truman's Rebecca Nelson christened the new Rock Chalk Park on the campus of Kansas University by winning the women's Heptathlon with an NCAA Provisional mark of 4982 points on Thursday.
Nelson won four of the six events contested taking the 100 Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump and Javelin Throw.
She set a new personal best marks in the hurdles (14.48; +8.8 wind), Shot Put (36-08.50), 200 Meter Dash (26.39; +8.1) and 800 Meter Dash (2:38.39).
She accumulated a NCAA Provisional point total of 4982 points while besting five other competitors, mostly from Division I.
Matthew Schaefer finished fourth in the unseeded 800 meter run.
Schaefer ran 1:54.47. Lauren Westen shaved a few tenths off her best time in the 800 with a clocking of 2:18.58.
Andrew Sheets ran a personal best time in the unseeded 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:41.66, good for sixth place. Katie Hirsch ran 11:49.84 in the women's unseeded steeplechase.
In the unseeded 5000 meter races, Brad Hart reduced his personal best time for the second straight race by going 14:49.24, good for ninth and Laura Tarantino ran 18:27.66 good for 18th place.
The final Bulldog in action was Bryce Pavey in the unseeded 1500. Pavey ran 4:04.29 to place 15th.
