Two members of the Truman State University Tennis team were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Menâ??s and Womenâ??s At-Large teams.
Senior Lauren Higgins and junior Kirk Schlueter were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America and will now advance to the national ballot. Higgins (Omaha, Neb./Westside HS) picked up the most singles wins on the team with nine during her senior season and went 4-2 playing in duals at number five singles.
She had a 7-6 record in doubles matches playing at the number three spot and finished her Truman career with a 32-26 overall record.
She is a member of the MIAA Academic Honor roll and graduated with a 3.96 grade-point average in Health Science. Schlueter (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS) posted a 7-10 record as a junior bouncing between number four and five singles.
He was 5-4 in doubles playing at number three. Schlueter is a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and has a 3.92 grade-point average while majoring in English. To be nominated for the Capital One Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must have a 3.50 or better grade-point average, be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility and a starter or key reserve.
The all-district team was voted on by Sports Information/Athletics Communication Directors.
The Academic All-America team will be selected later this month by the CoSIDA national committee.
