Iowa Wesleyan College Director of Athletics Steve Williamson has announced the appointment of Will Van Nostrand as the new Head Men's Soccer Coach.
Van Nostrand will begin his role immediately as he prepares for the upcoming 2014 season.
"We are very happy to have Will Van Nostrand here at Iowa Wesleyan," said IWC Athletic Director Steve Williamson.
Will was very impressive throughout the interview process and he understands what it will take to build our men's soccer program.
I think we hired a very good recruiter who will build IWC Men's Soccer into a conference contender in the future.
Will has been part of turning a program around at Spalding, he knows the SLIAC very well, and I think Will has the ability to recruit the type of student-athletes that we want here at Iowa Wesleyan."
Van Nostrand comes to Iowa Wesleyan College after spending the last two years as the Assistant Men's and Women's Soccer Coach at Spalding University.
Spalding, an NCAA Division III institution in Louisville KY, competes alongside Iowa Wesleyan in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).
Significantly, Van Nostrand helped Spalding through the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division III, a process Iowa Wesleyan is currently going through.
The IWC Tigers are currently finishing their first season as provisional members of NCAA Division III.
Having played an integral part in the rebuilding process of both the SU Men's and Women's Soccer programs, Van Nostrand is primed to lead IWC Men's Soccer into their next chapter as a program.
"I'm honored to accept the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach here at Iowa Wesleyan", said Van Nostrand.
"I would like to thank Steve Williamson for the opportunity to lead the Iowa Wesleyan Men's soccer program forward.
As someone who has both played and coached at this level, I truly believe in the ability of Iowa Wesleyan to become completive in the SLIAC and at the Division III level."
A Spalding alum, Van Nostrand spent 2011 as a Volunteer Assistant before transitioning into the full-time role of Graduate Assistant in 2012.
He helped the Men's program to their first winning-season in five years this past fall, where they went 10-9-0 overall and finished in 5th place in the SLIAC.
The SU Women's programs have also had their most successful seasons in recent history, finishing with back-to-back records above .500 in 2012 and 2013.
A USCAA All-American, All-SLIAC honoree, and NSCAA Academic All-Region selection as a player, Van Nostrand finished his career at Spalding in 2009, where he captained the Golden Eagles to a 12-6-0 overall record and into the USCAA National Tournament.
Will previously spent one season at D2 Anderson University (SC) and also played for the West Palm Beach Pumas of the Professional Development League (PDL).
Van Nostrand holds his NSCAA National Diploma and has spent additional time coaching club for Louisville Soccer Alliance and Clemson Anderson Soccer Alliance.
He holds his Bachelor of Arts in Business from Spalding and is finishing his Master's in Business Communication from Spalding this spring.
