MARION, Iowa - - The Truman golf team turned a five-shot day-one lead into a 20-stroke victory at the Mount Mercy Spring Invitational, while senior Jessica Tomash earned medalist honors with a four-shot win in the individual competition.
The Bulldogs went 344-334 for a two-day 678, distancing themselves from second-place Grand View (Iowa) by 20 for the team's third tournament victory of the season and first of the spring. Truman also made it a clean sweep of MMC tourneys, winning both the Fall and Spring Invitationals.
Tomash (Swisher, Iowa, Prairie) backed up a day one 83 with a final round 80 - the two lowest rounds of the event - to post a two-day 163. Her four-stroke victory marked the second tournament win of the season and third top-five finish in 2012-13. Fellow senior Lynn Dreisilker (Wheaton, Ill., St. Francis) notched her second straight top-10 finish, carding a two-day 169 (86-83), while freshman Kim Barmettler (Omaha, Neb., Elkhorn South) finished fourth with a 172 (84-88). Senior Kathryn Hogan (St. Louis, Mo., Villa Duchesne) placed in a tie for seventh by shooting 174 (91-83), and sophomore Courtney Cisler (Green Bay, Wis., Ashwaubenon) rounded out the five-player team squad with back-to-back 94's. Sophomore Riley Keltner (Belleville, Ill., Althoff Catholic) competed as an individual and placed in a tie for 14th, shooting a two-day 178 (88-90).
The Bulldogs now have a week to prepare for the 2013 MIAA Championships, held April 22-23 in Smithville, Mo., at Paradise Pointe Golf Club on the Posse Course.
