IOWA CITY, Ia. - For the second year in a row, Fairfield sophomore Anatta Charoenkul made it to the 1A state singles title match to face Olivia Fain(Columbus Catholic, Waterloo). Fain won last year 6-3, 6-3.

This year was all Charoenkul. The sophomore took the first set 6-1. She dropped her first game of the tournament after sweeping all three previous opponents 6-0, 6-0. The first time that has ever happened.

In the second set, Charoenkul was down 2-0 early, but tied it at 2-2 and then after Fain tied the set again at 3-3, pulled away for a 6-4 victory.

Charoenkul is the first girl to win a state title for Fairfield since 2007 when Jennifer Bradfield and Johannes Gottschlich won the coed title. She is the first individual champion since Gottshlich won the boys singles title, also in 2007.
