Maharishi wins district tennis again

The district tennis meet held at Fairfield Middle School was dealt a difficult hand today.

The rains came early and didn't let up, forcing the meet indoors for much of the morning.

When the weather finally cleared, the players went back outside, but more showers forced the marquis matchup between Sam Stickels and Govi Punj into the MUM Recreation Center.

Govi Punj captured his 2nd district singles title in 3 years, defeating Stickels by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. In the doubles final, Maharishi's top duo, Surya Sawhney and Solaris Nite, overwhelmed the competition, defeating Mt. Pleasant's Zach Schmitz and Tyler Pace by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Chandre Morales finished fourth for the Pioneers as did the Pioneers doubles team, Girindra Selleck and Dave Fleshman.
