OHS boys win Don Newell, Fairfield girls second

OTTTUMWA, Ia. - Ottumwa held its 68th Annual Don Newell Classic. The Burlington, Des Moines East, and Fairfield boys were in competition. On the girls side, Burlington, Fairfield and Iowa City West were on the track.

With some special performances, the Ottumwa boys topped the action with 207 points. The Fairfield boys scored 77. The Ottumwa boys shuttle hurdle set a new meet record in 1:00.10 topping the previous record set in 2007 of 1:00.19 also set by Ottumwa.

The Bulldogs also set a new 4x400 relay record in 3:23.96. The previous record of 3:25 was set by Burlington in 1984.

The Ottumwa girls finished third with 134 points. Fairfield edged the Bulldogs out with 140. Iowa City won with 194 points.
