Van Buren loses class 1 A title game to Mason City Newman.

A pair of errors in the 3rd inning proved to be the difference as top ranked Mason City Newman defeated the Van Buren Warriors 6-2 for the class 1 A state title on Saturday.

Newman scored four runs in the third inning to go along with one each in the second and seventh to win the school's fourth state championship.

Robert Barker pitched for Van Buren which scored it's runs in the second and seventh innings.

Garrett Saunders and Tanner Smith had the RBI's for the Warriors as they were making their first state title appearance.
