Wife of slain Aplington-Parkersburg High School coach to testify in Washington

The wife of slain Iowa high school football coach Ed Thomas is scheduled to testify in Washington, D.C.

Jan Thomas was invited by U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa, to address a House subcommittee on Friday.

The panel is examining whether federal privacy rules interfere with the flow of health information among patients, families and health care providers.

The question is whether the rules hurt patient care and raise risks to public safety.

Jan Thomas' husband, Ed Thomas, was fatally shot in June 2009 at Aplington-Parkersburg High School. Mark Becker, the man convicted of shooting the coach, is serving a life term in prison.
