Adair County JAKES Day to take place this weekend

Are you interested in teaching your kids firearm safety?

The Adair County JAKES Day will be held this weekend.

JAKES Day is a non-competitive youth event designed to teach firearm safety and outdoor skills.

This event will be held Saturday, September 30 at 7:30 a.m. at Big Creek Conservation Area with lunch provided.

No hunting experience is needed. Events are staffed by the Missouri Department of Conservation agents and certified volunteers.

Truman State University Alpha Gamma Rho Philanthropy Chair Levi Krauss told KTVO why this event is important for kids.

"This is really important because I think this is a skill that all kids can have. Outdoors and knowing if they come across a firearm, what to do, but also just how to be safe," Krauss said.

Adults must attend with children.
