85-year-old woman injured in collision with tractor-trailer
EDINA, Mo. —
An elderly woman was flown to a hospital after her van collided with a tractor-trailer late Wednesday morning.
Joann B. Swanson, 85, of Edina, suffered moderate injuries in the crash that occurred just after 11:30 a.m. on Missouri Highway 15 about two miles north of Edina.
According to the Edina Sentinel, Swanson was trying to make a left turn from Highway AA onto Highway 15 when she collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Shawn Campbell, 47, of Moberly, who was headed north on that road.
An official from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office told the Sentinel that a passerby attended to Swanson while awaiting emergency crews.
Campbell was uninjured.
The semi jackknifed and blocked both lanes of the highway, closing it entirely for about 45 minutes until one lane was reopened just after 12:30. Both lanes reopened around 3:30 p.m.
Swanson was taken by Knox County ambulance to meet an Air Evac helicopter near the Edina City Lake, then flown to University hospital in Columbia.
The Knox County Rescue Squad, Edina Volunteer Fire Department, Knox County Ambulance District, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
