Accused Bloomfield pedophile faces December trial
DES MOINES, Iowa —
A Bloomfield, Iowa, man accused of sexually assaulting a child now knows when he will face a jury.
Federal court records show that Steven Crook's trial date has been set for Dec. 10 in Des Moines.
The news comes days after federal prosecutors filed new charges.
Crook was originally indicted on 25 federal counts in March, most of those relating to his repeated sexual assault of a young girl.
The new charges include allegations that Crook attempted to defraud the Social Security Administration out of disability benefits.
At one point, Crook claimed he couldn't go outside because he was afraid of the wind.
Court records document available at the time of his arrest allege that Crook filmed himself viciously raping a child.
An Iowa DCI agent wrote at the time that Crook wasn't sure how many times he had abused the child.
Crook has until Nov. 19 to enter a plea deal.
Crook remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
