With winter weather on the way, the Adair County Local Emergency Planning Committee wanted to make sure they are prepared for anything.

The committee gathered Thursday morning to discuss an upcoming emergency operation exercise.

The exercise, which was expected to be based on a severe winter ice storm, will now be more in line with a tornado event exercise.

This was done to help simulate the need for immediate action with a focus on how the Emergency Operations Center would react.

The EOC is home base for local emergency managers during crises such as a tornado or severe weather event.

The actual exercise will take place December 5 and will cover multiple topics that would arise during such a disaster.

Those topics include activating the EOC in preparation of an event, designating key participants with decision-making authority at the EOC, assigning certain management roles and testing communication abilities between agencies.

Members from the Kirksville Police Department, Truman State University, A.T. Still University, the Adair County Ambulance District, and Adair County Health Department along with other local emergency service agencies are all part of the LEPC.
