ATV accident injures one, sends another to jail
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
An ATV accident Wednesday afternoon sent one woman to the hospital and landed one man in jail.
Around 12:30 p.m., authorities responded to the intersection of Paris and Main Street for a call of an ATV accident.
An Ottumwa police officer said the driver, Judson Letts III, 34, was driving the ATV over a ditch when his female passenger began to fall off the back.
The woman’s leg then got caught up underneath of the vehicle as she was falling off, causing the injury.
Police said the driver left the woman bleeding in the ditch and drove off to a near-by gas station to “get the woman a bottle of water.”
Police tracked Letts down at the gas station and placed him under arrest for driving while barred.
The woman was taken to Ottumwa Regional Health Center for treatment of her injuries.
