Blakesburg driver released from hospital following serious crash
BLAKESBURG, Iowa —
The driver involved in Monday’s serious crash in Blakesburg is in stable condition.
Around 6:30 Monday evening, the driver lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into the foundation of a burned building on Bluegrass Road.
Blakesburg Assistant Fire Chief Mike DeWild told KTVO Tuesday the man was treated and released from the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Monday night. He said the man sustained fractured and or broken bones in the crash. DeWild chose to keep his name confidential.
DeWild told KTVO Monday that the Blakesburg Fire Department had just burned the vacant building down Saturday as part of a routine firefighter training.
The investigation into a cause continues. Firefighters at the scene last night believe an unknown medical condition might have caused the driver to lose control of the wheel.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, a crash report at the Wapello County Sheriff's Office was not immediately available.
