Block party and pitch tournament to benefit American Legion

Everyone seems to know someone that is a veteran.

On Saturday, May 18, just a couple days before Memorial Day, there will be a fundraiser for the American Legion in Ottumwa.

Starting at noon at the American Legion, there will be a pitch tournament. It will be $20 a person or $40 a team.

At 6 that evening outside of Morganâ??s Corner, Cass St. will be closed and there will be a block party with 50 cents of each drink going towards American Legion Baseball to help with field maintenance.

â??And the one thing I want people to understand with doing this is you're not just helping the American Legion Baseball or American Legion, you're also helping the Ottumwa School District and the Ottumwa Sports Program because everything that is used on that field that's purchased by Legion Baseball or whomever it may be benefits both organizations, the Legion and the Ottumwa Bulldog Baseball Program,â?? said Brian Morgan, organizer.

Morgan said itâ??s important to not let the American Legion, the VFW and places like those fall to the wayside.
