Business for snow removal slow until now, Ottumwa landscaper says
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
While many despise winter weather, an Ottumwa business owner hopes for it.
Doug Knott, owner of Ottumwa Mow and Snow said business has been slow in past years.
That's beginning to change now with recent snowfall.
Knott says the job requires him to work long hours. This year, he worked on Christmas Day to complete all tasks on time.
He says part of the job is spent keeping a close eye on the forecast.
"A lot of times we get up, 1 or 2 in the morning,” Knott said. “We're always looking at the radar…we're pretty much weather fanatics as well when you're in this kind of business because you have to know exactly what it's doing and you can't always trust the forecast…you kinda gotta make your own forecast and be ready to go at any moment."
Knott was preparing Saturday morning, for a chance of more snow later that night.
