Canteen wins award as one of state's best restaurants
An iconic Ottumwa restaurant continues to garner a statewide following.
The Greater Ottumwa Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that The Canteen Lunch in the Alley has won the award for Outstanding Dining Business at the recent Iowa Tourism Conference.
The popular diner is owned by Scott and Janice Pierce.
The annual conference, hosted by Travel Iowa, is held annually. The conferences agenda includes an awards luncheon that recognizes outstanding tourism providers throughout the state of Iowa from multiple categories, including dining. The Canteen was named the outstanding dining business throughout the entire state.
The award was publically announced on Thursday, February 7th and presented to Canteen General Manager Lindsey Newland by Mayor Tom Lazio, CVB Board member Pam Kaupins and CVB Executive Director Andy Wartenberg. The Canteen was nominated for the award by Isaac Campbell.
The CVB wishes to publically congratulate and thank the Canteen for their great contributions in both the community and in helping to make Ottumwa a great destination for both visitors and local residents.
The CVB is also pleased to announce that Fly Ottumwa received second place at the awards luncheon for best event throughout the state.
