Cardinal beefs up security system
ELDON, Iowa —
The Cardinal Community School District is beefing up its security system.
In July, the district will install about 10 Blue Point pull stations in the high school, making it one of the first districts in Iowa to do so.
Similar to a red fire alarm pull station you'll find in most school hallways, these devices will be blue, and will alert law enforcement when activated.
Superintendent Joel Pedersen said with the district's rural location, response time is a concern. He said this is a way to communicate an emergency with authorities as quickly as possible.
"One of the neat things to think about when a pull station is pulled, an actual text message or email will go out to who we've designated to that, with the school map, that'll show exactly where the pull station was pulled," Pedersen said.
The Cardinal school board has invested $35,000 into this project. Pedersen said the district will apply for a grant to purchase more alert systems for the elementary school.
