OTTUMWA, Iowa — An Ottumwa man reached a milestone in December when he hit the century mark.
KTVO News caught up with him about his life memories and his reaction to a special gift he received from the governor.
"I’ve had a good life. I’ve had a good life and it’s still going on,” said Charles Osing.
Charles, or Chuck, as some people like to refer to him, turned 100 years old on December 6. The World War II vet is still going strong after all these years. We spoke with Osing on Wednesday about his secret to reaching the century mark.
"I don't do much. Everyday living, I try to live a clean life," Osing said. "I try to stay out of trouble as much as possible, but sometimes you get in trouble and not even try."
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds gifted Osing with a certificate recognizing his achievement of turning 100 years old. He expressed his gratitude for the award.
"I couldn't believe it," Osing said. "So many people deserve a lot more than me, but yes, I appreciate it very, very much. I really do. She's a nice, nice, good governor... I think."
Osing says his most fond memories are from when he was serving in the military, traveling through China and Japan. His advice to younger people is to treat others with kindness and they will return the favor.
From all of us at KTVO, Happy birthday Mr. Osing.
