CENTERVILLE, Iowa — A Centerville woman arrested for drunk driving Wednesday is also facing an assault charge, after police say she spit in an officer's face.
Around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Michelle Lee Gilge, 41, was pulled over for Operating While Intoxicated in the 100 block of North 13th Street.
Centerville Police Chief Tomy Demry said Gilge admitted to drinking several beers earlier that night. According to the arrest report, Gilge failed a field sobriety test. The report also shows Gilge refused to take a breathalyzer test after telling officers she would fail that too.
Gilge was taken to the Appanoose County Jail, where Demry said she became belligerent, and spit in the officer's face.
Gilge is charged with OWI, first offense and Assault on an Officer. She remains in custody at the Appanoose County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
