Charges filed in Ottumwa dog show deaths
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
Charges have been filed in the animal cruelty case KTVO told you about last month.
During a weekend dog show at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa, three dogs locked inside a car died of heat exhaustion. One more inside survived.
City Attorney Joni Keith said Animal Control Officer Jeff Williams did a thorough investigation and found the Illinois man who was hired to handle the dogs.
She would not release his name because an arrest hasn’t been made.
The city has filed four counts of animal cruelty against him. Those are misdemeanor charges.
Keith said if the suspect is found guilty of these charges, he would be ordered to pay $250 per count plus additional court costs.
