Church built in 1904 celebrates another year
Adair, Mo. —
112 years, that's how long a church in Adair, Mo., has kept its doors open to the community.
On Sunday afternoon, St. Mary's Church located off of Highway 11 had a homecoming celebration, honoring the historic building.
Church member Rita Ludden has been attending the church for about 22 years.
Members say it has become more than just a place of worship, but the church is also a place for weddings, and a frequent stop for tourist groups.
Ludden says the church used to have a large congregation, but now the number of members has dwindled down.
However, this hasn't stopped current members of the church from preserving the structure of the building.
Ludden says she wants future generations to enjoy the building just like older generations.
Well our carpenter says that foreseeing any major disasters that it will stand for another 100 years.
Although the building is a Catholic church, Ludden says it is open to anyone in the community.
