City of Kirksville hires parks and recreation director
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
A local city now has a new parks and recreation director.
Rodney Sadler has been hired to serve as the parks and recreation director for Kirksville.
The city has been searching for some time to fill the position.
The director role was created after the April 2017 municipal election.
It was during that election that a half-cent parks and recreation sales tax was passed by voters.
The idea behind that tax is to better city parks and recreation opportunities in Kirksville.
City Manager Mari Macomber says the city is excited to have Sadler on board to help lead the new department.
Sadler comes to Kirksville from the Belton Parks and Recreation Department in Belton, Missouri.
There, he served as the recreation superintendent.
He said in a press release that he's ready to get to work providing parks and recreation opportunities to the citizens of Kirksville.
Sadler will begin his duties with the City of Kirksville on November 30.
He says his first priority will be to meet with community members and organizations to determine the best course of action to complete projects the citizens voted to support during the election.
An example of one of those projects is the construction of a new aquatic center.
