Commission votes 4-3 to recommend homeowner receive permit for Airbnb
KIRKVILLE, MO. —
On Wednesday, the City of Kirksville Planning and Zoning Commission voted in favor of recommending to the Kirksville City Council that a resident be granted a special use permit to operate an Airbnb.
The home is located on Sunset Cove Drive and the homeowner is Mark Stock.
Stock says a majority of his tenants are family members of college students and students who come to the area to visit Truman State University and A.T. Still University.
Stock says he has a 5-star rating and only allows three renters to stay in his home at a time.
Larry Logston spoke against the approval of a special use permit.
Logston is a foster parent, and his concerns were about the safety of children in the neighborhood.
Following the public hearing, the commission voted 4-to-3 to grant the special use permit.
The next step is for the city council to approve or deny the application.
In November 2016, the council denied a special use permit to operate an Airbnb for the last homeowner who applied.
