Crash on icy Highway 36 injures Brookfield couple

An afternoon wreck on a slick northeast Missouri highway left a Heartland couple injured.

It happened at 4:40 p.m. Monday on Highway 36, two miles west of Macon.

Troopers said Derek Sturguess, 49, of Brookfield, lost control of his westbound pickup truck on the ice-covered highway.

The truck slid off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned, coming to rest upside down.

Sturguess suffered minor injuries.

His wife, Sherri Johnson-Sturguess, 46, also from Brookfield, suffered serious injuries.

They were taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

Both of them were buckled up when the crash happened.
