Distracted driver swerves to miss deer, SUV overturns

A northeast Missouri woman was seriously hurt Tuesday evening in a rollover crash in Sullivan County.

It happened at 8:15 p.m. on Highway 5, two miles north of Milan.

Troopers said an SUV driven by Jakeob Stark, 23, of Unionville, Missouri, was southbound when he was distracted by a cell phone and swerved to miss a deer in the roadway.

The vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway and overturned.

Stark's passenger, Kassie Sotz, 26,of Milan, suffered serious injuries. She was flown to a Columbia hospital for treatment.

Stark suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan.

The online crash report states neither Stark or Sotz was wearing a seat belt.
