Driver flung from motorcycle, car slams into building in evening collision
FAIRFIELD, Iowa —
A motorcyclist was injured and a building damaged Thursday in a serious collision in Fairfield.
A car and a motorcycle collided at the intersection of 4th Street and Grimes Avenue.
According to the online crash report, a vehicle driven by Brittany R. Crawford, 27, of Fairfield, was headed east on West Grimes Avenue just after 5:30 p.m.
Troopers said Crawford pulled out from a stop sign into the path of a motorcycle driven by Darrick W. Cecchini, 51, also of Fairfield, who was northbound on 4th Street.
Cecchini was ejected when his motorcycle struck the right front corner of Crawford’s car. He landed in the intersection while his motorcycle continued up onto a sidewalk. Crawford's car struck the side of a building, but she reported no injuries.
Neighboring business owner Patrick White told KTVO he was less than a block away when he heard the crash.
"It's really traumatizing, I’ve never seen anything like it,” White said. “I have to applaud the Fairfield Police Department and the first responders. They did amazing."
Cecchini was flown to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City for treatment of his injuries.
