UPDATE: Police confiscate BB gun, knives from Evans Middle School student
OTTUMWA, IOWA —
The Ottumwa School District confirmed that an Evans Middle School student was charged Thursday after law enforcement confiscated two knives and a BB gun from the student. School personnel are also addressing the situation through school board policies.
The student, whose name is being withheld due to confidentiality policies, is not attending school at this time.
"The Evans administrative staff took swift action when notified of the situation," said Superintendent Nicole Kooiker in a statement. "Safety is our number one focus."
Students and staff are reported safe after an Evans Middle School student was allegedly found in possession of a BB gun on school property Thursday.
The Ottumwa School District has already notified parents of the incident.
According to the school board’s policy on weapons, the student is subject to disciplinary action, which could result in a suspension or expulsion.
