Eyes bigger than their stomach? Pro eaters say they're ready to eat 40+ canteens.

The Heartland has been looking forward to it for months.

The first-ever Major League Eating sanctioned Canteen Competition is at 1 p.m. on June 2, 2018, in Ottumwa's Central Park.

KTVO spoke with three of the confirmed eaters, and they tell us they’re getting their bodies in shape.

First up is Michael Blue. Michael isn’t actually a competitive eater. He’s a drummer for a band called The Dweebs. The Dweebs will be playing at the Bridge View Center after the competition.

Michael said he’s been eating greasy for training.

“I’ve been training my whole life. I’ve been eating greasy, non-great food, so I think my body is well prepared for the challenge,” Micheal said.

Next up is the #40 ranked eater is the world, Matthew Raible. He’s hasn’t started training just yet. Why?

“I haven’t started on that one yet. I’ve got 3 competitions in between,” Raible laughed.

Finally, we have the twelfth ranked eater in the world. He plans on putting up incomprehensible numbers.

“I want to put on such a show for this crowd that they’ll remember, like eating 20, ah, that’s ok. 30? Its impressive. But once you start sniffing 40 and 50 of these things, dude, that’s legend. So I want people to go home and be like 'they were so disgusting and I couldn’t’ turn away...” Rodriguez says.

So there you have it.

Hopefully our local Ottumwa contestants have been at the Canteen Lunch in the Alley, practicing to eat potentially 40 or 50 canteens.... in just 10 minutes.
