Feds charge Bloomfield man with 25 counts of child sexual exploitation
Des Moines, Iowa —
A Bloomfield, Iowa, man faces more than two dozen federal charges after prosecutors alleged he filmed sex acts with a prepubescent girl.
KTVO first reported the arrest of Steven Crook Jr. in early March.
At that time, he was facing state charges of felony sexual abuse.
The state charges were dropped last week, so that case could be moved into federal court.
Crook was indicted on the federal charges on March 28.
Court records document that Crook filmed himself viciously raping a child.
In an affidavit attached, an Iowa DCI agent wrote that Crook wasn't sure how many times he had abused the child.
Crook estimated it was less than 100 times over a period of three months starting in December 2017.
All told, Crook faces 25 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child, one count each of Possession and Receipt of Child Pornography, and one count of Making False Statements.
Crook is in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
His next court date is an April 11 arraignment.
