A northeast Missouri couple is now without a place to call home.

A Thursday morning fire leveled their manufactured home in Macon County.

The blaze at the Doug and Melissa Cuppy residence on Highway 3, four miles southeast of Elmer was discovered just before 8 a.m.

Small flames were still visible around mid-afternoon on Thursday.

A family member told KTVO the Cuppys were out doing chores when the fire broke out.

Chief Rob Aldinger of Elmer Rural Fire Protection District said flames were shooting out of the home on all four sides when crews arrived.

A neighbor said those flames were 15 to 20 feet high.

Aldinger said he decided not to call in the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office to investigate because the damage is too extensive to determine what started it.

He told me there is no reason to believe it is suspicious.

The Callao Town and Country Fire Department was called in to help Elmer firefighters battle the blaze.

Crews were on the scene for about five hours.

No one was injured in the incident.
