FLATS Half Marathon to showcase scenic views of Thousand Hills State Park
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
In just a few weeks, one of the Midwest's most beautiful single-track half marathons will be held in northeast Missouri.
The 8th annual 13.1 mile FLATS Half Marathon will take place Saturday, October 6, at Thousand Hills State Park near Kirksville.
All proceeds from this marathon will be donated to the Forest Lake Area Trail System (FLATS) for the construction and maintenance of trails in Adair County.
Race Director Dan Martin says this course will take runners from the marina at Thousand Hills - through forests, savannas and hills along the shores of Forest Lake.
"This event is our seminal event. We are trying to make this be the premiere trail half marathon in the Midwest, and I think when we think about running a half marathon, I think this one adds the component of it is adventurous, and that is what makes it special."
Currently, just under 100 people have registered for this race.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m.
