An out-of-state sex offender is in custody in a northeast Missouri jail.

Joshua L. Welch, 37, of Ridgeville, Indiana, was arrested Tuesday in Ethel, Mo., where he was charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. According to the Indiana online sex offender registry, law enforcement has been looking for Welch since August.

Most recently, Welch was wanted in Indiana for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and Possession of Methamphetamine.

Macon County Sheriff Kevin Shoemaker said in a press release Friday that Welch has been living in a residence in Ethel for more than a month without registering with local authorities. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals coordinated to arrest Welch this week.

Welch was added to the sex offender registry in 2016 after a conviction on child molestation charges.

In a Facebook post Friday, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana said that federal charges will also be filed against Welch for failing to register.
