A Heartland man was killed while mowing near a ditch Wednesday evening.

Macon County Sheriff Kevin Shoemaker told KTVO that just before 6 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a tractor rollover accident on Festival Avenue north of Elmer, Missouri.

Investigators said Marvin Vroom, 64, of Elmer, was mowing along a ditch with a farm tractor when the wheels went over an embankment, causing the tractor to flip over and land in the bottom of a ditch.

Vroom was not able to escape and became pinned underneath the tractor.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken by Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes to an area funeral home.

Macon County Sheriff's deputies, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Macon County Ambulance, La Plata Fire and Rescue, the Macon County Rescue Squad and first responders all assisted at the accident scene.
