A northern Missouri man hired to help around the house is now jailed, accused of sex crimes against an underage girl.

Robert E. Jones III, 25, of Brookfield, faces two felony charges in connection with Monday's incident.

Jones is charged with Second-Degree Statutory Sodomy and Fourth-Degree Child Molestation.

Brookfield police say the victim is a 14-year-old Brookfield girl.

According to court documents, the girl's mother had hired Jones to do yard work at her home in Brookfield. He was reportedly trying to earn money to move back to Texas.

She left her daughter at home with Jones while she went to run errands for about half an hour.

Court papers state that when the woman returned, Jones was gone and her daughter was crying.

The girl told her mom Jones had done sexual acts to her.

Investigators said that during an interview with police, Jones admitted to kissing the girl and touching her privates.

The victim told investigators that while her mother was gone, she and Jones were sitting on the couch in the living room watching a movie.

She said she was on one end of the couch, and Jones was near the other end of the couch.

The girl said the two of them were not really talking to each other during the time her mother was gone.

The youngster claims Jones leaned toward her and started kissing her. She said that lasted for what she thought to be several minutes.

The girl said she tried to push Jones away while he was kissing her. She said he then touched her privates.

The girl told police Jones then took her hand and placed it on his privates on the outside of his pants. She said she tried to pull her hand away, but the suspect would not let her.

The 14-year-old said Jones asked her what was wrong, and she didn’t say anything. That is when Jones left the house.

The girl told officers she knows Jones because he used to live with them when she was younger. She and her mother both said Jones knew the girl was a juvenile.

Jones is being held in the Macon County Jail with bond set at $100,000.
