KEOSAUQUA, Iowa — The Republican party has a candidate for the house district 82 special election. The seat is open due to the death of three-term Democrat Curt Hanson.
Delegates from Jefferson, Davis and Van Buren counties elected Travis Harris to run for the Republican party on August 8. Harris is from Davis County and works for Farm Financial Strategies.
He ran against four other candidates and won with 57 percent of the votes.
Harris told KTVO he is grateful for the support and is ready to start his campaign.
“It’s humbling to know through this process that there was a lot of good candidates up for this and through the process, I became the winner. And now I know, by divine intervention, I’m supposed to be involved in this process and take the sprint to August 8th.”
The Democratic party will host its nominating convention Friday night in Jefferson County.
