Kirksville Memorial Park bathroom vandalized, forced to close
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
One of Kirksville's city parks has fallen victim to vandalism - again.
During Tuesday's Lakes, Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, members were updated on a recent incident at Memorial Park located on East Cottonwood Street.
Assistant City Manager Ashley Young told the group someone unsuccessfully tried to set the bathroom on fire.
He also said the vandals smeared human feces throughout the facility.
As a result, the bathroom at Memorial Park has been closed for the season, about three weeks earlier than usual.
Young says that Memorial Park is not the only park to have issues with vandalism.
He says it's been an on-going issue in the city and he's now asking for your help.
"If you see anything, if you see vandalism going on in the parks or any kind of suspicious activity, especially after hours, please either contact central or E-911 or the police department which has an anonymous tip hotline."
Young says he's disappointed by the recent acts of vandalism and hopes the community will now step up and report suspicious activity.
