A northeast Missouri motorcyclist was badly hurt Wednesday evening after colliding with a car.

It happened just before 7 p.m. on Highway 11 about eight miles northeast of Kirksville.

The state trooper on the scene told KTVO a car driven by Emily Schlesinger, 22, of Kirksville, was westbound when she crossed the center line and collided with the motorcycle.

The motorcycle operator was Drew King, 22, of Kirksville.

The highway patrol said King suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg.

He was flown from the scene to a Columbia hospital for treatment.

Schlesinger, who was not hurt, told the trooper she got distracted by her cat, causing her to veer into the oncoming lane of traffic where she struck the motorcycle.

Her car came to rest in the highway. The motorcycle ended up on its side in a ditch.

Traffic was reduced to one lane while the wreckage was cleared from the roadway.
