Kirksville physician honored with prestigious award

A local doctor just received a major award.

Justin Puckett, D.O., FACOFP, a family physician at Complete Family Medicine in Kirksville was recently awarded the 2019 Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year Award by the Missouri Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MSACOFP).

Dr. Puckett was honored at a ceremony on Jan. 25 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Independence, Mo., during the 2019 MSACOFP Winter Family Medicine Update.

The prestigious award is given to an osteopathic family physician who exemplifies the principles of osteopathic family medicine via outstanding accomplishments and service for the betterment of the osteopathic profession.

Dr. Puckett is a graduate of A.T. Still University –College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville and completed residency in family medicine at Northeast Regional Health Center.

He established his practice Complete Family Medicine in Kirksville in 2006 and has since become dual board certified in osteopathic family medicine, osteopathic manipulative treatment and obesity medicine.

Dr. Puckett has been a member and active participant of the MSACOFP for many years.

He has served on numerous society committees, including the office of president from 2013 – 2015.

Dr. Puckett has also served on several national osteopathic committees including the New and Emerging States Committee and the Editorial Committee for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP). During his tenure on the MSACOFP Board of Governors, he served Missouri many years by participating as a delegate at the ACOFP Congress of Delegates.

Dr. Puckett also completed an AOA Fellowship in health policy at the New York Institute of Technology-New York College of Osteopathic Medicine which led him to take a more active role in health

policy, both locally and nationally.

Dr. Puckett is an avid teacher, working with students and residents in a variety of settings. He was named one of Kirksville’s top 5 under 40 in 2012 and was awarded the Steelman/Seim Educator Award for excellence in academics from the American Society of Bariatric Physicians in 2013.

He was most recently recognized and presented the “Bias Buster Award” by the Obesity Action Coalition for his efforts regarding weight bias with the media, retail and travel industries and even other healthcare professionals.
