KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Although Veterans Day fell on Sunday, celebrations and ceremonies continued on Monday.
Sunday, November 11, 2018, marked 100 years since the end of World War I.
Armistice Day was created in 1919 to remember those that served in that war.
In 1954, the day was renamed to Veterans Day, to encompass and honor all veterans.
Monday afternoon in Kirksville, students and teachers at William Matthew Middle School hosted a Veterans Day assembly.
Veterans from around the community were invited to attend.
During the ceremony, students gave speeches and choir and band students performed patriotic tunes.
The veterans in attendance said they were appreciative of the recognition, and thanked the students for hosting the special ceremony.
